U.S. shoulder sleeve insignia, dating from the Second World War, intended for American personnel serving in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater.
Its design is inspired by the American shield with stars and stripes: the twelve-rayed Chinese sun replaces the stars on the left, while the Star of India appears on the right. The red and white stripes represent the United States. The design was created by Colonel Frank “Pinky” Dorn and was worn on the left sleeve of uniform jackets.
