USA WWI: Named Doughboy Set, M-1910 Mess Kit and Spoon

Named set comprising a US M-1910 aluminium mess kit with steel handle and its matching spoon, both bearing the same name “DONALD DUNTEN” as well as the manufacturer’s marking R.I.A. 1916 (Rock Island Arsenal).

The set can very likely be attributed to Donald Louis Dunten, Sergeant, 328th Ambulance Company, 82nd Division, A.E.F., France, 1918.

The marking “444” is present on both the mess kit and the spoon. The soldier also hand-engraved his initials “D.L.” on the upper part of the lid and “L.D.” on the lower part, possibly corresponding to Donald Louis.

A fine named Doughboy set. Named mess kit, lid and spoon.

Condition: The mess kit is dented, the lid no longer fits perfectly, but remains securely in place.
