Charming watercolor depicting a Zouave prisoner from the French Army of Africa, dressed in his bolero and sarouel trousers, alongside a Scottish prisoner in a kilt wearing a Glengarry cap.
Both are shown observing, from behind barbed wire, German soldiers marching past.
The watercolor is titled “Young Krauts Strolling Through the Prisoner Camp.”
Signed by P. Bellan and dated 1916.
Location: Glion, Switzerland (a medical internment site for wounded French and Belgian Allied soldiers).
