French Model 1916 Trench Knife, “Le Vengeur de 1870”

French combat knife called  “Le Vengeur de 1870” (The avenger of 1870), Model 1916.

This knife features a double-edged blade with a central ridge on both sides.

The handle is made of quality cylindrical wood, secured to the tang by a screw similar to those used on Rosalie M1886/15 bayonets.

Steel guard with two flat, slender quillons.

Iron scabbard with belt loop.

Manufacturer marking “Chabrol” stamped on the blade’s ricasso.

“Le Vengeur de 1870” marking present on the opposite side of the ricasso.

A good example of a combat knife from the 1916–1918 period.

Condition: Fairly good overall, with two dents at the tip of the scabbard.
