Silver medal with hallmark, awarded to personnel of the French Navy (seven-battles model).

The obverse of the medal features the effigy of the Republic bearing the word “Patrie” on the visor, with the legend “République Française” around the edge.

The reverse bears the inscriptions “Tonkin, Chine, Annam, 1883–1885” and the names of the seven battles: Cau-Giaï, Sontay, Bac-Ninh, Fou-Tchéou, Formose, Tuyen-Quan and Pescadores.

Medal mounted on its original suspension bar, olive-shaped suspension loop.
