Croix De Guerre plate from the Musée de la Légion D’Honneur

Croix de guerre 1914-1915-1916-1917-1918″ plate awarded to Albert Sarraut by the Union Coloniale du Commerce et de l’Industrie in October 1925.

Albert Sarraut was :

– Governor of French Indochina from 1911 to 1914 and from 1917 to 1919.

– Prime Minister of France in 1933 and 1936 (Albert Sarraut I and II governments).

– Minister of the Interior during the phoney war (1938-1940).

– Arrested and deported to Neuengamme in June 1944, liberated in April 1945. (His brother Maurice was head of La Dépêche newspaper in Toulouse. Murdered by the french Milice in 1943, Albert decided, despite German opposition, to take over his brother’s newspaper).
