Japanese Bottle and Sake Cups, World War II

Japanese set consisting of a Sake bottle and two Sake cups, from the World War II era.

The bottle is in good condition and measures approximately 14.5 cm in height.

The cups have a diameter of 5.5 cm.

One of them is decorated with an anti-aircraft cannon and features the following Kanji: “Demobilization Commemoration,” “1st Anti-Aircraft Division,” and the soldier’s name, Furuyama, on the back. Condition: a tiny chip at 12 o’clock.

The second cup is decorated with a large Kanji for “trust” and “Demobilization Commemoration.” Condition: very good.

During World War II, sake bottles and cups were used by Japanese soldiers to celebrate special occasions such as military victories, promotions, demobilizations, or even religious ceremonies. These moments of camaraderie were seen as essential for maintaining soldiers’ morale despite the hardships of war.
