It features the crown, regimental knot and the regiment’s title embroidered in coloured bullion thread.

The pennant is fringed on one side (with several losses to the fringe) and has four attachment rings.

Marked on the reverse: “2nd Bn Cornet”.

Condition: Fairly good, with age-related wear.

The South Staffordshire Regiment existed for only 68 years, from 1881 to 1959.

The 2nd Battalion was one of the first British units to land in France in 1914 as part of the British Expeditionary Force. It served on the Western Front throughout the First World War and was awarded twenty-eight battle honours.

From November 1941, it was converted to a glider infantry unit and became part of the 1st Airlanding Brigade of the 1st Airborne Division. The battalion notably took part in Operation Market Garden and played a significant role in the Battle of Arnhem (17–25 September 1944).
