Prussia: Merit Cross for War Aid (Verdienstkreuz für Kriegshilfe)

Maltese cross made of war alloy (Kriegsmetall).

The obverse bears the inscription “Für Kriegshilfsdienst” (For War Aid), accompanied by an oak wreath on the lower half of the cross.

The reverse features the royal monogram of King Wilhelm II, marked “WR” for Wilhelm Rex.

The cross has double loops for suspension and retains its original ribbon.

Instituted by King Wilhelm II on December 5, 1916, this decoration was awarded regardless of rank to men and women who rendered auxiliary services to the war effort across Prussia and other German states during WWI.
