French Canteen Model 1877/15, World War I
150,00 €
French canteen model 1877/15 from World War I.
This is a nice two-liter canteen covered with a horizon-blue cover.
Both caps are present, with the larger one stamped by the manufacturer and retaining its original cord.
The smaller wooden cap has been sawn or cut by the soldier, as was commonly done from 1914 onward, since this smaller cap was poorly suited to the new conditions dictated by the war.
Original long strap in tawny leather, in good general condition.
Two metal eyelets are missing on the cover. It has its original drawstring.
Large cup, also known as the “colonial” model.
The set is in fairly good condition, with a few moth holes visible in the photos.
Era: World War I, 1915-1918.
In 1914, the French army used two different canteen models with varying capacities: a one-liter canteen for metropolitan troops and a two-liter canteen (or two one-liter canteens) for soldiers stationed in warm regions (Colonial Infantry, french African army). In 1915, due to water supply challenges on the front lines, the two-liter model was gradually distributed to all armed forces.
