Medal awarded to William Thomas Stanley of the Royal Navy. William held the rank of OS2 (Officer’s Steward 2nd Class), probably serving as a steward or cook on board a warship.

He notably served aboard HMS Brilliant, an Apollo-class cruiser that served from 1893 to 1918 in various colonial stations and off the British Isles during the First World War.

His service number (5564) was incorrectly engraved on his medal as 5562.
