Senior Officer’s sword from the First Bourbon Restoration. The bronze hilt, formerly silvered, features a single-branch suckle-bow marked by a lion’s head and floral decoration. The pommel, intricately engraved with a pair of wings, is shaped like a crook. From the quillon block emerge two lion heads at the ends, adorned with the arms of France, two gladiator helmets, military trophies, oak leaves, nd, at its center, three fleur-de-lis.
The wooden grip is covered with fluted mother-of-pearl plates, held together by a ferrule. Blade of hollow-triangular section etched at the forte, with golden engravings. The high-quality leather scabbard comes with two bronze fittings.
The sword is signed Schimmelbusch & fils. Schimmelbusch was a swordsmith in Solingen at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The signatures Schimmelbusch & fils were used starting in 1815, while he signed his swords JSB around 1802, and later J.S &C or I.S &C.
