French Officer’s Sword in Silver, Circa 1790–1800

1400,00

Fine sword with a silver hilt, entirely faceted (diamond-cut) and partially openwork.

Guard with a single branch and a small “pas d’âne”.

Triangular blade with some remaining engravings.

Scabbard covered in shagreen, with three silver fittings.

The blade measures 81.5 cm; the sword alone weighs approximately 350 grams, and about 450 grams with its scabbard.

The hallmarks are very difficult to decipher; however, one seems to show a facing old man’s head, corresponding to first-standard silver, stamped during the Consulate period (1799-1804).

Condition: Fairly good condition, small opening in the scabbard over 5 cm, silver hallmarked sword.
