Ce brevet, connu sous le nom de brevet de v\u00e9t\u00e9rance, a \u00e9t\u00e9 institu\u00e9 le 16 avril 1771.<\/p>\n

Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cern\u00e9 au Sieur Claude Franget, Mar\u00e9chal des Logis au R\u00e9giment de Lorraine Dragon, au sein de la compagnie de Varennes, en reconnaissance de 24 ann\u00e9es de service cons\u00e9cutives. Le document a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 \u00e0 Versailles le 28 avril 1774 et porte la signature manuscrite du Duc d’Aiguillon, alors Ministre et Secr\u00e9taire d’\u00c9tat en charge du D\u00e9partement de la Guerre et des Affaires \u00c9trang\u00e8res.<\/p>\n

Le brevet est orn\u00e9 d’une vignette repr\u00e9sentant un globe couronn\u00e9 aux armes de France, accompagn\u00e9 de faisceaux de drapeaux sur un fond rayonnant et nuageux. Il comprend \u00e9galement divers attributs militaires tels que des drapeaux, cuirasses, boucliers et canons. Dans l’angle sup\u00e9rieur gauche figure le m\u00e9daillon ovale aux deux \u00e9p\u00e9es crois\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Emmanuel-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis-Richelieu, Duc d’Aiguillon (1720-1788), fut nomm\u00e9 Pair de France en 1740, Mar\u00e9chal de camp en 1748, et Commandant en chef en Bretagne de 1753 \u00e0 1768. Il occupa ensuite les fonctions de Secr\u00e9taire d’\u00c9tat aux Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res (1771-1774) puis de Secr\u00e9taire d’\u00c9tat \u00e0 la Guerre en 1774.<\/p>\n

Le M\u00e9daillon des Deux \u00c9p\u00e9es avait pour objectif d\u2019encourager les sous-officiers et soldats, qui n\u2019\u00e9taient pas \u00e9ligibles \u00e0 l\u2019Ordre de Saint-Louis ou au M\u00e9rite Militaire, \u00e0 prolonger leur engagement dans l’arm\u00e9e. Il \u00e9tait attribu\u00e9 apr\u00e8s vingt-quatre ann\u00e9es de service. Bien que maintenu apr\u00e8s la R\u00e9volution, il semble ne plus avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cern\u00e9 apr\u00e8s 1795 et fut ensuite interdit de port.<\/p>\n
