Sa blessure est mentionn\u00e9e dans l&rsquo;historique du bataillon (voir paragraphe en fin de publication) et confirm\u00e9e par son dossier m\u00e9dical militaire, qui indique une blessure p\u00e9n\u00e9trante \u00e0 la jambe caus\u00e9e par balle.<\/p>\n<p>Cette d\u00e9coration, en forme de c\u0153ur \u00e9maill\u00e9 violet bord\u00e9 de dor\u00e9, est r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en m\u00e9tal dor\u00e9. Le profil de George Washington est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 au centre du c\u0153ur. Son sommet est orn\u00e9 de ses armoiries, repr\u00e9sent\u00e9es par un blason compos\u00e9 d&rsquo;\u00e9toiles et de bandes. Le revers porte l&rsquo;inscription : \u00ab For Military Merit \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Le style de fabrication, notamment le fermoir et le style de gravure, permet d&rsquo;identifier cette Purple Heart comme un exemplaire de remplacement obtenu apr\u00e8s-guerre par le v\u00e9t\u00e9ran. Comme il \u00e9tait d&rsquo;usage, le b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaire d&rsquo;une d\u00e9coration de remplacement recevait une Purple Heart grav\u00e9e selon les standards en vigueur au moment de sa d\u00e9livrance. Cet exemplaire pr\u00e9sente une gravure officielle r\u00e9alis\u00e9e vraisemblablement m\u00e9caniquement, au pantographe.<\/p>\n<p>Elle est conserv\u00e9e dans son \u00e9crin en similicuir de fabrication Seconde Guerre mondiale. L&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur est habill\u00e9 d&rsquo;un rev\u00eatement textile cr\u00e8me : satin au niveau du couvercle et tissu pelucheux dans la partie inf\u00e9rieure destin\u00e9e au maintien de la m\u00e9daille. \u00c0 noter un claquement \u00e0 l&rsquo;ouverture et \u00e0 la fermeture du couvercle de l&rsquo;\u00e9crin, qui n&rsquo;affecte en rien sa fonction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9tat :<\/strong> tr\u00e8s bon pour la m\u00e9daille ; \u00e9crin pr\u00e9sentant des traces d&rsquo;usure.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Le 25 janvier 1945 est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme la date officielle de la fin de la bataille des Ardennes. Le bataillon entra alors dans la campagne de Rh\u00e9nanie. Ce jour-l\u00e0, il franchit la fronti\u00e8re et p\u00e9n\u00e9tra dans le Grand-Duch\u00e9 de Luxembourg, aux environs de Hautbellain.<\/p>\n<p>Le 27 janvier, ou plus probablement le 28, le bataillon se d\u00e9pla\u00e7a et prit position dans la r\u00e9gion de Bockholz, au Luxembourg. Il fut renforc\u00e9 par un bataillon d&rsquo;obusiers de 155 mm. Le 29 janvier, deux troupes de cavalerie furent rattach\u00e9es au 680th GFAB. Au cours de cette quatri\u00e8me semaine de combats, les canons du bataillon tir\u00e8rent 1 196 obus, et le technicien de 4e classe (T\/4) Dmeter Yablonski fut bless\u00e9 le 30 janvier.
