Brevet fait \u00e0 l\u2019H\u00f4tel Royal des invalides, le 26 juillet 1791.<\/p>\n

En haut \u00e0 gauche, est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le m\u00e9daillon ovale aux deux \u00e9p\u00e9es crois\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Le brevet porte la griffe de Louis Le B\u00e8gue Du Portail, cr\u00e9ateur et commandant du corps du g\u00e9nie militaire am\u00e9ricain.<\/p>\n

Avant l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de Lafayette en Am\u00e9rique, Louis Duportail s\u2019engage d\u00e9j\u00e0 aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des insurg\u00e9s. Nomm\u00e9 colonel des ing\u00e9nieurs am\u00e9ricains en juillet 1777, il devient rapidement un conseiller \u00e9cout\u00e9 de George Washington. Excellent ing\u00e9nieur pendant la campagne de Pennsylvanie, il se distingue surtout par ses qualit\u00e9s de strat\u00e8ge lors des conseils de guerre. Washington suit ses recommandations et lui confie un r\u00f4le important dans la coordination des op\u00e9rations men\u00e9es avec Rochambeau et De Grasse, qui conduisent \u00e0 la victoire de Yorktown.<\/p>\n

De retour en France en 1783, il est nomm\u00e9 Ministre de la Guerre en 1790.<\/p>\n
