La medalla, con un di\u00e1metro de 30 mm, est\u00e1 hecha de plata. En el anverso, presenta un crisantemo dorado, ramas cruzadas de mandarina y cerezo, junto con largas banderas con la inscripci\u00f3n \u00ab\u00a1Banzai!\u00bb (\u00a1Que el Imperio viva diez mil a\u00f1os!). El reverso lleva caracteres que dicen \u00abGran Entronizaci\u00f3n \/ Medalla Conmemorativa \/ 4.\u00ba A\u00f1o de Taisho \/ 11.\u00ba Mes\u00bb en cuatro l\u00edneas horizontales.<\/p>\n

Esta medalla conmemorativa fue establecida por el Edicto Imperial n.\u00ba 154 el 13 de agosto de 1915, en preparaci\u00f3n para las ceremonias de entronizaci\u00f3n celebradas en noviembre de ese mismo a\u00f1o en la antigua capital de Kioto. Seg\u00fan el edicto, la medalla deb\u00eda ser otorgada \u00aba aquellos convocados para la ceremonia de ‘senso’ (acceso al trono); a los invitados al Gran Banquete de entronizaci\u00f3n y a la Gran Ceremonia de Acceso; a los invitados a los banquetes celebrados en varios lugares; y a aquellos que oficiaran o sirvieran en relaci\u00f3n con la entronizaci\u00f3n\u00bb. El emperador japon\u00e9s no es coronado, sino que asciende al trono a trav\u00e9s de ceremonias tradicionales, llenas de esplendor y grandeza, t\u00edpicamente celebradas en Kioto.<\/p>\n
