Mold for US Pilot Wings, WWII Prisoners of War
Mold used for the handmade production of American pilot wings by prisoners of war during the Second World War in German Luft-Stalags.
These replacement insignia were made from salvaged materials, including lead obtained, for example, from the wrappers of confectionery distributed in Red Cross parcels.
The mold made it possible to reproduce the shape of regulation US pilot wings with some examples bearing the inscription “POW” (Prisoner of War).
