WWII Japanese Senninbari Belt

Superb Japanese Senninbari belt / “Thousand Stitch Belt” from the Second World War.

The main motif depicts the famous legendary monk Daruma, a symbol of perseverance and hope. Next to it appears the Japanese proverb Shichi ten hachi ki (“Fall seven times, rise eight”).

This Senninbari is dated Shōwa 18 (August 30, 1943). Another inscription reads: “Congratulations on your entry into the war (into the army).”

On the reverse of the belt, a large painted inscription can be seen meaning: “May your military fortune be eternal.” Below it, a magnificent tiger is finely hand-embroidered.

The belt features buttons used for wearing it (two buttons missing).

Dimensions: approximately 80 cm x 18 cm.

Condition: good overall condition, belt has been worn.
